Good morning everybody, my name is George. Today I am very happy to have the chance to give my presentation. I would like to talk about Water, especially drinking water. Most developed nations provide drinking water on tap, that's why it is called tap water.
My topic, drinking water, will cover three points. Firstly water sources, Where is the water from ? And then bottled water, Is it more widely use in the future ? And finally the water economy - How we decide to choose drinking water safely and economically.
Ok, let me talk about the first point- water sources. They are ground water, lake water and river water. The best one is ground water ,because its quality and quantity are stable and firmly fixed. Sometimes we can find a specially good quality ground water, for example the Speights beer factory at the corner of Rattray Street. Have you ever been there to get it ? It is very good for health and free of charge.
Another source is lake water. It comes from the melting snow and rain in the mountains. The quality is much better than river water, because it is collected the drain from the land surface. It is easily polluted by sprays, fertilises and toxic nitrates. It is also influenced markedly by the weather. It costs more money to treat for drinking, for example the Dunedin City Council have spended about $ 60 million to upgrade the water quality from E to A, over 10 years.
The second point is bottled water. Mostly it is made of mineral and ground water or even tap water. It uses ozone gas instead of chlorine to kill the bacteria, so it is smell free and it tastes better than tap water. I think it will be more popular in the future.
The last point is water economy. Most water experts think both of tap water and bottled water are similar in quality. But bottled water is more expensive about 1,000 times more than tap water nearly the same price as petrol. Do you complain about the rising price of petrol? Wy do you still use bottled water?
In conclusion I suggest we use tap water more than bottled water, because it costs much money and wastes lots of PE bottles. Whose material is very hard to dispose of. And I hope the government should make some laws for compulsory water restrictions to save water sources.
Before I finish, I would like to say thank you for listening. It has been my pleasure. Thank you very much.
